North China's Shanxi province recently issued a plan to develop future industries, according to Shanxi Department of Industry and Information Technology on Feb 28.

The plan states that Shanxi will fully launch the cultivation project this year and integrate into the development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and collaboration with the Yangtze River Delta and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Focus will be put on the future industries of artificial intelligence, intelligent sensing and internet of things, digital twin and virtual reality, blockchain, hydrogen energy, nuclear energy, quantum technology, carbon-based chips and low vacuum tube maglev trains.

The output value of artificial intelligence should be increased to 8 billion yuan ($1.27 billion) in 2022, while the output value of intelligent sensing and internet of things should be increased to 3 billion yuan. The scale of the other seven industries will be gradually expanded.

The province will also accelerate the construction of innovation platforms, five future industrial enterprise technology centers and new R&D institutions.

By 2025, Shanxi aims to become a leader in the development of future industries in China.
