The initial batch of wind turbines was successfully connected to the grid on May 27 for the Cox's Bazar Wind Power Project – the first large-scale centralized wind power project in Bangladesh.
The project, invested in by Shanxi CIG International Investment Co and constructed by Shanxi Industrial Equipment Installation Group Co, is the first overseas equity investment project implemented by their parent company, Shanxi Construction Investment Group (Shanxi CIG), based in North China's Shanxi province.
It represents the latest move by construction enterprises in Shanxi in response to the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
The wind power project is located in Cox's Bazar in southeastern Bangladesh, about 100 kilometers from Chittagong – the country's largest port city.
After the project is completed and put into operation, its annual power generation capacity will reach 145,600 megawatt-hour, which can reduce coal consumption by 44,600 metric tons, carbon dioxide emissions by 109,200 tons, and sulfur dioxide emissions by 25.15 tons. The project will be a great boon to local economic development, energy conservation, emission reduction, and environmental protection.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of China's BRI. Represented by this wind power project, Shanxi CIG is raising the profile of the province's construction industry in tandem with the development of the BRI.
Wang Limin, chairman of Shanxi CIG International Investment Co, said the company has focused on exploring the markets of new energy, infrastructure, real estate, international production capacity cooperation and mineral resources development in 10 countries, including Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, and Australia.
Next, Shanxi CIG International Investment Co and Shanxi Industrial Equipment Installation Group Co will work together to complete various tasks at a high quality and ensure that the wind power project is finished on schedule.
In the future, they will further expand the markets of countries involved in the BRI, focusing on the fields of new energy, infrastructure construction, and international production capacity cooperation.
