North China's Shanxi province, as a major energy hub, is seizing opportunities to accelerate its computing power industry, promoting digitization to drive the transformation of traditional industries and cultivate new economic growth drivers.

This year, Shanxi plans to establish over four intelligent computing centers, with a total computing power exceeding 9,000 PFLOPS and intelligent computing accounting for 35 percent. The province has already developed a "1+3+N" data center spatial system, with Taiyuan at its core, supported by Datong, Lyuliang, and Yangquan, fostering coordinated development across multiple cities.

At the beginning of this year, the province announced the approval of 16 computing power (intelligent computing/data center) projects, including the Zhongke Ruihua Intelligent Computing Center and the Zero-Carbon Intelligent Computing Industrial Park in Fanshi County, with a total investment of over 13.85 billion yuan ($1.89 billion).

Among the new projects, the Huoshan Cloud (Datong) Taihang Computing Power Center stands out as a "star project". With a total investment of 12.33 billion yuan, the project will feature eight data center buildings housing over 20,000 computer racks. It will be one of the largest intelligent computing centers in North China.

Meanwhile, Shanxi has established a comprehensive policy support system. This includes prioritizing land supply, implementing special electricity price discounts, and offering unique policies for talent recruitment. Additionally, the province has set up a 1-billion-yuan special fund to support the construction of intelligent computing centers.

To date, Datong has attracted 59 data enterprises, including JD.com and Douyin, while Taiyuan is accelerating the development of a "computing power trading platform" to optimize the allocation of computing resources.
