Shanxi Natural History Museum holds Earth Day activities

The Shanxi Natural History Museum launched a series of activities to celebrate the 56th Earth Day on April 22, featuring three major thematic exhibitions, alongside a variety of engaging online and offline events.

The gem and mineral exhibition, the largest of its kind in China, showcases 465 top-tier mineral crystals and gemstones, including seven of the world's 10 rarest gems such as Alexandrite and Taaffeite. Through a blend of technology and art, the exhibition reveals the ancient mysteries surrounding these minerals.
An exhibition focusing on the life and contributions of Li Siguang, the founding father of Chinese geology, was also held. Through a series of paintings, it showcases his scientific explorations and patriotic spirit. The exhibition is divided into sections like "Life Achievements" and "Legacy and Influence", highlighting the scientific spirit of geological research.

The marine shell exhibition features 287 shell specimens and explores the evolution of shellfishes from aesthetic, scientific, and cultural perspectives. From tiny snail shells to giant clams, it showcases the survival and ecological diversity of marine life over billions of years.
During Earth Day Week, the museum also hosted various events, including the "Natural Resources Science Knowledge Online Quiz" and the "Ode to Fossils" series. These activities aimed to enhance public understanding and appreciation of natural resources and the environment.
