Shanxi wins two golds at 2025 National Flatwater Canoeing Championships

The Shanxi team performed outstandingly at the 2025 National Flatwater Canoeing Championships, securing two gold, one silver, and two bronze medals. They also earned 19 spots at the upcoming National Games.

As the highest-level qualifying event for the canoeing events of the 15th National Games, this championship saw fierce competition among 26 teams and 557 athletes from across the country. Competitors vied in 22 events, 12 of which are National Games events.

Shanxi's star athlete Zhou Yuexin clinched the first gold with a record-breaking 3 min 55.81 sec in the women's single kayak 1000m final, setting a new national best. Zhou also secured a bronze in the women's single kayak 5000m endurance race.

In the women's single canoe 500m final, Shanxi's Ma Yanan shattered another national record with a time of 2:02.33, earning the team's second gold medal. Ma also achieved a personal best by finishing fourth in the women's single canoe 200m event.

The Shanxi team also excelled in doubles events. The duo of Ma Fei and Wang Jinwei won silver in the men's double kayak 1,000m final, while brothers Gao Yutao and Gao Yukun took bronze in the men's double canoe 1,000m event.

Overall, 19 Shanxi athletes secured spots in the National Games across eight events, including men's four-person kayak, men's single canoe, and women's double canoe, marking a significant achievement for the province.
