In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has experienced rapid development in its nursing sector, achieving significant progress in the development of both its workforce and service capabilities.

The structure of Shanxi's nursing workforce has been continuously optimized. By the end of 2024, the total number of registered nurses in the province had reached 140,200, with the number of registered nurses per 1,000 people rising to 4.07. The educational and professional qualification structure of the team has notably improved, with 86.3 percent of nurses holding a college diploma or higher and 29.3 percent holding intermediate or senior titles.

To enhance professional service capabilities, Shanxi has implemented the "Five Enhancements" training program, cultivating over 40 senior nurses. The program has provided tiered and graded training for 821 nursing department heads and 11,700 head nurses, assessed more than 40,000 nurses in seven critical specialties such as geriatrics and pediatrics in secondary and higher medical institutions and evaluated 7,752 newly employed nurses.

Additionally, the province has expanded its high-quality nursing services. All hospitals at the secondary level or higher in the province have fully implemented the responsibility-based holistic nursing model, achieving comprehensive coverage of quality nursing services. In the realm of no-attendant services, medical institutions have increased the "nurse assistant" workforce through direct hiring and third-party dispatching. By the end of 2024, 51 medical institutions had implemented no-attendant services, covering more than 15,000 beds and serving over 640,000 patients.
