Shanxi sees steady improvement in ecological quality
Updated: 2025-05-28
North China's Shanxi province has maintained a stable and positive trend in ecological quality through continuous protection and restoration efforts.
The results of the fourth five-year ecological status change survey and assessment reveal that the overall ecosystem remains stable, with 98.16 percent of ecosystem types unchanged. The quality of ecosystems has significantly improved, with approximately 21.5 percent of ecosystems upgrading in quality, 9.83 percentage points higher than the national average for the same period.
Faced with the challenges of an inherently fragile environment, Shanxi will continue to adhere to the "protection, restoration, regulation, and enhancement" approach, focusing on tasks in three major aspects.
Efforts will continue in the restoration of the "Two Mountains, Seven Rivers, and Five Lakes", including the implementation of the "Three North Shelterbelt" project in the Yellow River's Jiziwan area, and advancing the ecological restoration of coal mining subsidence areas and mines.
The ecological protection and restoration regulatory system will be improved through promoting environmental regulation in natural protected areas and ecological protection "red line" areas, minimizing human activity interference with natural ecosystems and safeguarding the ecological security baseline.
The "Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework" and national strategic actions will also be fully implemented. Shanxi will strengthen the coordination mechanism for biodiversity protection, implement major biodiversity protection projects, and foster a positive atmosphere for societal participation in biodiversity protection.
