The Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute has made significant strides in international collaboration with the recent establishment of the Fergana-Shanxi Archaeological Research Center and the Cultural Heritage Protection and Restoration Laboratory at Fergana State University in Uzbekistan.

Since the signing of the archaeological cooperation agreement between the Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute and Fergana State University in October 2024, both parties have actively implemented the agreement's content, engaging in various fields of exchange and collaboration. In March 2025, both sides had candid discussions to deepen their cooperation, reaching further consensus and laying a more solid foundation for future endeavors.

From May 9 to 12, a joint archaeological team consisting of members of the Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute and three professors and lecturers from the History Department of Fergana State University conducted a four-day archaeological survey in the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan. The team employed advanced technological methods to conduct a comprehensive and detailed study of the sites' preservation status, cultural features, and archaeological foundations. This research provided critical information about the archaeological sites in the region, supporting future excavation and research efforts.

During the collaboration, Fan Wenqian, director of the Shanxi Archaeological Research Institute, expressed commitment to ongoing cooperation with Fergana State University in joint archaeology, talent training, technological archaeology, cultural preservation, and exhibitions. These efforts aim to uncover the historical and cultural significance of the Fergana Valley and cultivate more internationally-minded professionals in Shanxi's archaeological community, thereby enhancing Shanxi's global archaeological influence.
