Shanxi province has issued the "Several Measures to Support the High-quality Development of Cultural Relics Sector in the New Era", focusing on key areas and crucial aspects of cultural relics protection and utilization.
Shanxi will allocate no less than 10 million yuan ($1.39 million) annually to support basic construction and archaeological excavation work for provincial key projects. Projects selected as "Top Ten New Archaeological Discoveries in China" will receive a one-time grant of up to 10 million yuan for subsequent protection projects.
The province will support Shanxi University and the Shanxi Institute of Archaeology in building first-class disciplines and key archaeological institutions, providing an annual subsidy of 20 million yuan for universities included in the national "Double First-Class" initiative.
An additional 10 million yuan will be allocated annually to complete 5-10 conservation projects for Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) and pre-Yuan Dynasty early wooden structures and colored clay sculptures, aiming to eliminate safety hazards comprehensively and achieve research results within five years.
Five State-owned museums and memorial halls implementing comprehensive reorganization and renovation will be annually selected to receive one-time project grants of up to 5 million yuan, 2 million yuan, and 1 million yuan, respectively, for first, second, and third-tier institutions.
Shanxi will support 20-30 cultural relic digital protection and innovative demonstration projects, allocating at least 50 million yuan annually. Specific funds will promote the construction of the Shanxi cultural relic resource database and the overseas lost cultural relic database.
Shanxi will also enhance the construction of cultural relic protection and archaeological talent teams, and cultivate leading figures, young talents, research backbones, and professionals in cultural relic protection and archaeology.
