Shanxi foreign trade injects new momentum into BRI
Shanxi province's "Shanxi Brands on the Silk Road" initiative, based on cultural exchanges and guided by economic and trade cooperation, has organized a series of exhibitions, project promotions, matchmaking events, and people-to-people exchanges in recent years, enhancing its comprehensive opening-up.
The "Shanxi Brands on the Silk Road" initiative is a specific measure meant to integrate Shanxi into the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and accelerate the establishment of a new inland hub for opening up. Since 2018, 12 events have been held as part of the initiative, reaching 29 countries.
During the 2024 Shanxi Brands on the Silk Road (Europe Station), the province held trade and investment promotion meetings in London, the United Kingdom and Barcelona, Spain, engaging in in-depth discussions and exchanges with local government departments, chambers of commerce, business communities, enterprises, and industrial parks.
"During the event in Spain, we established cooperation with Sundelyn International Inc from Canada and reached a tentative cooperation agreement valued at 20 million yuan ($2.79 million)," said Chai Yingjie, head of Shanxi Bitu Agricultural Technology Co.
Jack Perry, chairman of the UK 48 Group Club, said that Shanxi is developing new energy and high-end manufacturing, providing many cooperation opportunities for British enterprises in clean energy technology, industrial equipment, and high-tech agriculture.
Chen Xiaohong, vice president of the Shanxi Provincial Committee for the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, stated that Shanxi will continue to enhance the "Shanxi Brands on the Silk Road" initiative, further deepening trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, cultural tourism, and other forms of cooperation between Shanxi and BRI countries and regions.
