Shanxi province is striving to transform its resource advantages into industrial strengths by establishing a key national energy and raw materials base as part of its efforts to promote high-quality development and deepen comprehensive transformation.

The province is implementing significant technological upgrades and large-scale equipment renewal in traditional industries, with the proportion of advanced production capacity in traditional industries increasing annually. By 2024, the proportion of advanced coal production capacity in the province had reached 83 percent, an increase of 8 percentage points from 2021.

Keeping pace with new industrial trends, the province is accelerating the development of its energy and raw materials industries, with momentum in semiconductors, photovoltaics, and new energy storage. By 2024, the revenue of the electronic information industry cluster reached 208.98 billion yuan ($29.19 billion).

Shanxi is also focusing on future industries such as cutting-edge materials and green hydrogen energy, emphasizing technology breakthroughs to drive research, development, and industrialization.

The province is also implementing a "industrial chain leaders" system, cultivating 16 industrial chains including special steel materials, new energy vehicles, and carbon-based new materials, forming 41 "chain-leading" enterprises, 102 core chain enterprises, and 289 specialized and innovative enterprises, and establishing a collaborative development pattern.
