Shanxi student wins gold at Summer World University Games
Liu Hengyu, a Shanxi gymnast and student of Shanxi University, clinched gold in the men's rings event on July 26 at the 32nd Summer World University Games in Rhein-Ruhr, Germany, securing a valuable victory for the Chinese university sports delegation.
During the qualifications, Liu executed his rings routine to near perfection, scoring 14.466 points to claim the top spot and advance to the finals. In the final round, he maintained his exceptional performance, demonstrating precise and flawless movements with seamless transitions. Liu ultimately secured the championship with a score of 14.666 points.
"Liu Hengyu holds himself to high standards, training diligently and frequently analyzing training videos with his coach to identify and correct any issues," said the provincial team coach, Ren Jiajia, in a post-match interview.
Liu has been in excellent competitive form, finishing as the runner-up in the men's rings event at the 2023 National Gymnastics Championships and claiming third place in the same event in 2024.
