Shanxi province is focusing on revitalizing and upgrading its manufacturing sector, promoting the transformation of equipment manufacturing towards high-end, intelligent, green, and cluster development.

The province has established development goals to become a leader in specialized high-end equipment manufacturing, aiming to create an industry ecosystem characterized by integrated development. Fifteen specific areas have been identified as key focuses to build a "564" new equipment industrial system.

Traditional equipment industries, including intelligent coal machinery, heavy machinery, textile machinery, and coal chemical equipment, are accelerating their digitalization, intelligentization, and networked transformation. Emerging industries like rail transit equipment, new energy vehicles, and new energy equipment are expanding rapidly.

The province's equipment manufacturing industrial chain is also improving. In 2024, five key provincial industrial chains in high-end equipment generated a total revenue of 203.26 billion yuan ($28.33 billion). The clustering effect in specialized towns is evident, with five provincial specialized equipment towns achieving a combined revenue of 48.5 billion yuan in 2024.

In the first half of this year, the added value of Shanxi’s equipment manufacturing above the designated size increased by 9.6 percent year-on-year, with the new energy equipment sector growing by 2.3 times. In high-tech manufacturing, the computer and office equipment rose by 83.1 percent.
