A milestone in the industrialization of hydrogen energy has been achieved in Shanxi province with the rollout of a 165kW hydrogen fuel cell engine at the ShuoZhou Dual-Carbon Industry Research Institute.

According to Zhang Junliang, director of the Institute of Fuel Cells at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the 165kW hydrogen fuel cell engine is entirely developed in China and meets international advanced standards. It can maintain a stable range of over 400 kilometers even in extremely cold weather. The production line is expected to reduce diesel consumption by 27,000 metric tons annually and generate over 200 million yuan ($27.85 million).

The 165kW engine boasts high power density and a long lifespan, lowering the operational costs of hydrogen fuel cells. It meets the load capacity, range, and performance demands of heavy-duty transportation, making it suitable for long-distance transport and mining sectors.

A signing ceremony for the Shuozhou Wenjing hydrogen fuel engine vehicle project was also held, with six projects signed, covering diverse application scenarios such as public transportation, logistics, and heavy trucks, advancing the hydrogen energy sector from production to applications.
