Shanxi leads China's computing power industry
Updated: 2025-08-20
Riding the wave of artificial intelligence development, Shanxi province has fostered a robust computing power industry, creating a computing hub that serves the entire nation and facilitating the transformation of its resource-based economy.
As of June, the province's data centers house 514,000 standard rack servers, with intelligent computing power reaching 32 EFlops. Shanxi has established 112,000 5G base stations, leading Central China in the number of 5G stations per 10,000 people.
In the first half of this year, the province's information technology integration industry chain revenue grew by 69.3 percent year-on-year. Revenue from computing centers increased by 69.5 percent, while the added value of computer and office equipment manufacturing rose by 83.1 percent. The information transmission, software, and IT services sectors saw a 15.9 percent increase in added value.
Shanxi is integrating computing power across various industries, including energy, manufacturing, culture, tourism, and government services. This has led to the development of numerous computing service products and solutions, exemplified by the construction of 10 national intelligent demonstration coal mines and 289 smart coal mines.
The province is also committed to energy conservation and carbon reduction. Data centers are encouraged to adopt energy-efficient designs and equipment, while green electricity industrial parks, characterized by "green electricity trading + integrated source-grid-load-storage + direct green electricity connections", are being developed to facilitate the green and low-carbon development of computing power sectors.
