Shanxi's new energy industry cluster gains strong momentum
Focusing on building a clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system, Shanxi province has achieved breakthroughs in industrial transformation, project implementation, and market development, achieving the transition from a coal-based region to a new energy hub.
By the end of 2024, Shanxi's installed capacity for new and clean energy had reached 75.07 million kilowatts, accounting for 50.71 percent of its total power capacity. This marks a 23-percentage-point increase since the end of the 13th Five-Year Plan, signifying a shift to clean energy dominance in the province's energy landscape.
In the first half of this year, Shanxi's interprovincial green power transactions totaled 9.78 billion kilowatt-hours, up 31.12 percent from the entire 2024, injecting robust "Shanxi energy" into national low-carbon development.
Shanxi has completed 90.74 percent of its first batch of national large-scale wind and solar bases, while economic development zones in Datong, Changzhi, and Jiangxian county are piloting green power parks, achieving synergy between green power and industry.
The wind power sector has developed a complete manufacturing system centered around Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Group Co, while the photovoltaic sector has established a comprehensive "silicon-module" industry chain, with both sectors generating over 22 billion yuan ($3.09 billion) in revenue in 2024.
The province plans to advance the construction of large-scale national and provincial wind and solar bases, promote the contiguous development of key enterprises, and increase project implementation rates, creating a competitive new energy industry cluster centered on "wind, solar, and storage".
