Shanxi surpasses 115,000 5G base stations milestone
Updated: 2025-10-13
Shanxi province has achieved significant progress in its "Enhancing Signal in Shanxi" initiative. More than 115,000 5G base stations have been established, extending 5G connectivity to 19,769 administrative villages and ensuring continuous mobile network coverage across 23,000 kilometers of highways and railways.
Shanxi has identified 29,000 priority locations – including government centers, healthcare facilities, transportation hubs, and rural towns – for signal enhancement. The province is also working to improve network coverage in critical areas such as elevators and underground parking lots through optimization and gap-filling projects.
To strengthen cross-sector collaboration, Shanxi has coordinated efforts between telecom operators and sectors such as healthcare, education, transportation, and tourism. In partnership with the provincial housing and urban-rural development department, Shanxi has established a long-term mechanism for network coverage in residential and commercial buildings.
Shanxi is tailoring signal enhancement solutions for various scenarios. In densely populated areas like transportation hubs and tourist sites, 5G-A network zones provide exceptional speeds. In residential areas facing significant signal attenuation issues, such as underground parking lots and elevators, innovative solutions, including low-power and repeater systems, are being introduced to address payment and communication challenges.
Shanxi is also addressing the challenges of building and powering the base stations in remote areas along the Yellow River, Great Wall, and Taihang Mountain tourist highways. By employing high-low frequency networking and installing photovoltaic base stations, Shanxi delivers strong 5G connectivity to support its comprehensive tourism development strategy.
