Shanxi province has announced a major initiative to digitally transform its highway infrastructure, with an investment of 2.06 billion yuan ($289.5 million). This ambitious project aims to enhance efficiency and safety across key transportation corridors over the next three years.

The project will focus on 2,611 kilometers of routes within the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei to Chengdu-Chongqing axis, the Beijing-Xizang corridor, and the Ereenhot-Zhanjiang High-speed Railway. Specifically, it will cover four highways, six national roads, and one provincial road, transforming them into demonstration corridors that feature efficient heavy traffic flow, convenient tourist services, advanced infrastructure monitoring and early warning system, and collaborative road and police services.

By implementing this digital transformation, Shanxi aims to improve traffic flow, service quality, and safety with fewer resources. This approach addresses challenges such as high operational pressure on the road network, over-saturation of coal transport routes, and difficulties in expanding older road sections.

The project will emphasize strong organizational leadership, process control, performance evaluation, and collaborative efforts, aiming for significant progress in 2026 and completion in 2027.
