Shanxi welcomes over 1,000 new tech SMEs to boost innovation
Updated: 2025-10-30
Shanxi province has recently expanded its pool of technology-driven small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by adding 1,026 new companies to the 2025 sixth batch of the tech SME database. This strategic initiative reinforces the province's technological innovation capacity, injecting fresh momentum into its industrial transformation and upgrading efforts.
Tech SMEs are vital drivers of innovation. Shanxi implemented a rigorous selection process based on national evaluation standards, focusing on key indicators such as the proportion of technical staff, R&D investment intensity, and technological transformation capacity. This ensures the selected companies possess robust innovation potential and promising growth prospects.
To facilitate the advancement of more SMEs, Shanxi offers comprehensive support in funding, talent development, and platform building. Each newly registered tech SME is eligible for a one-time R&D grant of up to 200,000 yuan ($28,184). The province also encourages collaboration among enterprises, universities, and research institutions, fostering industry-academia partnerships to transform "innovation seedlings" into "industry leaders".
Shanxi will continue to support these SMEs by providing personalized policy guidance, organizing technology innovation matchmaking events, and fostering collaborative innovation among large, medium, and small enterprises. Provincial tech departments will conduct regular performance evaluations of the registered companies, maintaining a dynamic management system that ensures a vibrant and innovative SME ecosystem.
