Shanxi sees steady economic growth in first three quarters

Shanxi province reported stable economic performance with its GDP reaching 1.78 trillion yuan ($250.4 billion) in the first three quarters of the year, marking a 4 percent year-on-year increase. This growth highlights the province's steady upward economic trajectory.
Consumer spending played a major role, as total retail sales of consumer goods rose by 6.6 percent, exceeding the national average by 2.1 percentage points. Trade-in related goods saw strong growth: sales of communication equipment grew by 50 percent, home appliances and audio-visual equipment by nearly 50 percent, and new energy vehicles by almost 30 percent.
The service sector played a crucial role, contributing significantly to economic growth. It accounted for 56.1 percent of GDP and 60.1 percent of the total economic growth contribution. The equipment manufacturing industry also showed robust growth, with a 6.9 percent increase in added value.
Transport and logistics remained active, with highway passenger turnover rising by 2.8 percent and railway passenger turnover by 14.7 percent. The postal sector reported a 23.4 percent increase in parcel delivery, with express delivery up 33.7 percent. Tourism also thrived, with key monitored scenic spots experiencing an 18.7 percent rise in visits and a 13.3 percent increase in ticket revenue.
Social welfare initiatives proved effective, with 399,000 new urban jobs created, reaching 88.6 percent of the annual target. Urban residents' per capita disposable income grew by 3.8 percent, while that of rural residents rose by 5.5 percent.
