Shanxi province has recently launched its electronic health card and medical imaging cloud platform, marking a significant step forward in digital healthcare services across the province.

The electronic health card is now fully operational in 14 medical institutions directly under the Shanxi Provincial Health Commission. Residents can use this card for seamless online and offline identity verification, enabling a streamlined experience from appointment booking and check-in to payment, examination, medication retrieval, and access to medical records. This innovation significantly reduces patient wait times and enhances the overall healthcare experience.

The provincial medical imaging cloud platform has been integrated with 341 public medical institutions across Shanxi. The platform supports the secure and anonymized upload of various medical imaging data – including CT, MR, and DR scans – to cloud storage. This facilitates authorized access and data sharing between medical institutions, promoting interconnectivity and mutual recognition.

The provincial health commission plans to extend the electronic health card to all tertiary public hospitals. It encourages its adoption by secondary and lower-level public institutions, as well as private healthcare providers. The goal is to establish a comprehensive electronic health card ecosystem.

Additionally, efforts will continue to expand the medical imaging cloud platform's reach, targeting full coverage of all secondary and higher-level public institutions and eligible grassroots medical institutions by June 2026, while also encouraging private institutions to join the network.
