The Shanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology has announced the 2025 list for establishing basic discipline research centers, with Shanxi University and Shanxi Medical University spearheading the development of the Shanxi Mathematics Research Center and the Shanxi Basic Medical Sciences Research Center, respectively.

The mathematics discipline at Shanxi University, which will lead the mathematics research center, was founded in 1936 and has developed a comprehensive talent cultivation system over nearly 90 years. In 2024, it not only entered the top 1 percent globally in the ESI rankings but also received approval to establish the Shanxi base of Tianyuan Mathematical Center in Northwest China 

Shanxi Medical University, which will lead the establishment of the basic medical sciences research center, boasts a nationally recognized discipline in physiology and a Ministry of Education key laboratory in cell physiology. Over the past five years, it has secured 57 National Natural Science Foundation projects and published 494 SCI papers, showcasing its role as a core base for regional medical research and talent development.

The establishment of these two research centers is poised to enhance Shanxi's scientific research capabilities, providing essential support for the province's innovation-driven development. As construction progresses, Shanxi is expected to achieve breakthroughs in integrating basic research with industrial needs, injecting sustained technological momentum into its transformative growth.
