During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Yangquan city in Shanxi province prioritized the development of the digital economy, injecting digital momentum into the transformation of its resource-based economy, achieving notable progress in new infrastructure, data empowerment, and digital industry development.
Yangquan is rapidly establishing itself as a national powerhouse in computing capacity and positioning itself at the forefront of future industries, completing key computing infrastructure projects, including the Baidu Cloud Computing Center and the Yunfeng Intelligent Computing Center. An expansion of Baidu's intelligent computing capabilities has resulted in a 7,000P specialized intelligent computing cluster, placing Yangquan's computing power among the top in the province.
The city is implementing a digital-economy-first strategy, focusing on emerging industries such as energy and electronics to accelerate industrial layout. The city has also launched the CEC (Yangquan) Digital Economy Industrial Park and Shanxi Intelligent Innovation City No 7, hubs that have attracted over 200 companies involved in smart terminals, intelligent manufacturing, and data processing, forming a preliminary core industrial chain.
The integration of next-generation information technologies, such as 5G and the industrial internet, with the real economy is driving Yangquan's digital transformation of traditional industries. In energy digitalization, the city has constructed 14 smart coal mines, accelerating the development of new quality productive forces in the coal sector.
Yangquan has also developed the "City Brain", a unified digital platform encompassing business, video aggregation, and city information model platforms, as well as a digital cockpit. This infrastructure provides cross-system, cross-departmental, and cross-business collaboration and data analysis capabilities, marking significant progress toward a new smart city.
