Shanxi province has approved the establishment of 69 provincial key laboratories, including eight dedicated to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

The newly approved TCM laboratories focus on the research and development of efficacious substances in Shanxi TCM, the modernization of Chinese veterinary medicine, Shanxi-style acupuncture, and the TCM-based prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Among these labs, three are led by young TCM scholars and nationally recognized TCM clinical talents.

Provincial key laboratories are integral to Shanxi's scientific and technological innovation system. They serve as essential platforms for conducting fundamental and applied research, tackling common key technologies, and facilitating the transformation of scientific achievements. These laboratories are also crucial for attracting and nurturing outstanding scientific talent and fostering deep integration between industry, academia, and research.

In recent years, Shanxi has vigorously advanced its initiative to become a TCM powerhouse. The government has supported local TCM enterprises in collaborating with universities and research institutes to promote the industrialization of TCM formulations and innovative drugs.
