Shanxi province has strategically focused on green and sustainable development goals since the inception of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), transforming its agricultural landscape and ensuring that the aspirations for better, healthier living are becoming a reality for its citizens.

At the heart of Shanxi's agricultural transformation is technological innovation. The province has pioneered a scientific approach that emphasizes precision fertilization, structural optimization, method improvement, and diverse alternatives. Over 90 percent of the province currently benefits from soil testing and formula fertilization, and the use of pesticides and fertilizers continues to decline steadily.

To support these advancements, Shanxi has established 18 provincial industrial technology systems that bring together over 400 experts. A comprehensive agricultural technology promotion network has been developed, involving 14,000 agricultural technicians who bring 207 key technologies directly to farmers.

Shanxi is committed to circular development, promoting integrated farming systems that recycle agricultural waste into valuable resources, achieving utilization rates of over 85 percent for straw, agricultural film, and livestock waste. This has accelerated the formation of a "resource-product-waste-recycled resource" agricultural cycle across the province.

Efforts to improve crop quality, build brands, and standardize production have strengthened the supply of green agricultural products, with Shanxi boasting 2,424 certified green and organic products and a number of national green food and organic product bases that ensure citizens have access to these offerings.
