The "Polar Clean Energy Innovation Team", led by Professor Sun Hongbin from Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT), has been selected for the 2025 High-Level Science and Technology Innovation Talent Program announced by the Ministry of Natural Resources. It is the only team from Shanxi province to be included in the 2025 list.

In recent years, the Polar Clean Energy Innovation Team, led by Professor Sun, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, has conducted groundbreaking research on clean energy utilization in extreme polar environments.

Organized by the Polar Research Institute of China, the team established the world's first large-scale polar clean energy system at the Antarctic Qinling Station, with renewable energy accounting for over 60 percent of the system. They also developed the world’s first scientific device capable of simulating polar extreme environments and led the drafting of the "Twelve-Year Development Plan for Antarctic Clean Energy Utilization Technology", which provides a solution for energy transformation in Antarctic scientific research.

This selection marks a significant breakthrough for TYUT in team building and talent cultivation in the field of polar clean energy. It also represents another milestone in the university's discipline development and technological innovation.
