Both Shanxi Museum and Datong Museum have made the "2025 Top 100 Popular Museums in China" list, ranking 21st and 78th, respectively.
The list is compiled by China Museum Trending Searches and draws on four key sources: the National Museum Annual Report Information System, newly opened museums, previous top 100 popular museums, and the Small and Medium Museums and Museum Innovation Observation Sample Library. Data collection and evaluation are based on five aspects and 15 indices.
Shanxi Museum, a national first-class museum and a champion in national museum operation evaluations, boasts a collection of over 650,000 artifacts. Its exhibitions, such as "Jin Hun", have won the National Top 10 Exhibition Awards. Through diverse programs like the "Borderless History Classroom" and the "Jin Jie" forum, the museum effectively showcases the cultural essence of bronze civilization and ethnic integration, achieving both cultural and social benefits.
Datong Museum, also a national first-class museum, houses over 170,000 artifacts, with a focus on exquisite relics from the Northern Wei (386-534), Liao (916-1125), and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties. These collections vividly illustrate the deep integration of northern ethnic minority cultures with Central China’s civilization. The museum’s historical depth and effective cultural outreach have garnered widespread attention.
