Yangquan launches AI general education in schools
Updated: 2026-02-26
Yangquan city in Shanxi province has announced the introduction of an artificial intelligence (AI) general education curriculum across all 228 primary and secondary schools in the city, starting from this year's spring semester.
The AI general education program is designed to develop the core competencies needed to thrive in an intelligent society, focusing on enhancing students' innovative and critical thinking, as well as human-machine collaboration skills.
The first batch of city-level resources will span all grade levels, supported by an inclusive resource system to meet the needs of teachers and students.
Primary schools will introduce AI concepts through relatable, everyday scenarios to spark interest; middle schools will guide students in model training and deepen their understanding through interdisciplinary integration; and high schools will focus on developing skills in data processing, algorithm application, and cross-disciplinary innovation.
To ensure the rollout of this curriculum, Yangquan will establish an expert group dedicated to developing AI education curricula, with "Seed Plan" summer training sessions held to train key teachers.
The "Urban-Rural Pairing" initiative will also provide group-based support to remote areas, and partnerships with universities, research institutes, and tech companies will be established to foster a collaborative education model known as the "Teaching Consortium".
