Linfen city in Shanxi province achieved an average PM2.5 concentration of 35.1 micrograms per cubic meter in 2025, marking a significant 46.5 percent decrease from 2020, and making the city the leader in air quality improvement nationwide.

By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Linfen had eliminated 9.15 million metric tons of coking capacity and 220,000 tons of crude steel capacity, and reached 100 percent advanced capacity in industries such as coking, ironmaking, and steelmaking.

Clean transportation upgrades were completed for 143 enterprises across seven provincial industrial parks, with over 85 percent of bulk goods in sectors such as thermal power, steel, coking, coal, non-ferrous metals, and cement now using these upgrades. Ten steel, seven coking, and 16 cement enterprises in operation across the city also completed ultra-low emission transformations.
