Updated: 2026-03-19
Taiyuan University of Technology (TYUT) in Shanxi province has achieved a significant milestone: its Materials Science discipline has, for the first time, ranked in the top 0.1 percent globally in the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) global rankings, according to Clarivate Analytics, a leading global professional information service provider.
Among the 19 disciplines newly entering the ESI top 0.1 percent globally, only two are in Materials Science – one of which is TYUT. This accomplishment highlights the university's strong research capacity, substantial academic contributions, and growing international influence in Materials Science. It also underscores TYUT's core competitiveness and its emerging role as a leader in the development of this field, marking its entry into the ranks of world-class academic disciplines.
Additionally, TYUT's Computer Science discipline has entered the ESI global top 1 percent for the first time, becoming the university's seventh discipline to achieve this status. This breakthrough marks a new level of overall strength for the Computer Science field at TYUT and provides strong support for the university's initiatives in "intelligent+" interdisciplinary integration and the enhancement of the quality of new engineering education.
