Shanxi financially bolsters cultural heritage talent development
In an effort to enhance the protection of historical and cultural heritage, the Shanxi Provincial Department of Finance has partnered with cultural relic authorities to increase funding for cultural preservation.
Since 2023, the province has allocated a total of 14.69 million yuan ($2.15 million) to support the development of comprehensive talent in cultural relics, with the goal of cultivating high-caliber, specialized professionals to address talent gaps and weak expertise in ancient architecture restoration, colored sculptures, and murals.
Shanxi has been at the forefront of offering free, targeted training programs for comprehensive talent in cultural relics since 2022, training individuals across all 117 counties and districts. Graduates are then directly employed in local cultural preservation units, addressing the shortage of skilled professionals and strengthening grassroots cultural protection efforts.
The provincial finance department ensures that the necessary funding for these training programs is included in the annual budgets of educational institutions such as Shanxi University. This includes covering tuition, textbook costs, and internship fees, as well as providing subsidies for accommodation and living expenses, enabling students to dedicate themselves fully to their studies and thereby strengthening the development of comprehensive talent.
