Shanxi province has unveiled an action plan to promote sustained major project development. It emphasizes accelerating key projects in the energy sector, aiming to surpass a total investment of 200 billion yuan ($29.29 billion) in 2026.

This year, Shanxi is focused on promoting intelligent and green coal mining, with plans to establish 60 new smart coal mines. The province is also expediting the transformation and upgrading of coal-fired power, with the Huadian Jinxing project set for completion and operation within the year.

Additionally, efforts are underway to complete the new energy base in the coal mining subsidence area of northern Shanxi, with several large-scale wind and solar projects exceeding 500,000 kilowatts in capacity, aiming for an annual increase of 20 million kW in installed capacity.

The province is advancing multi-energy integration and the combined development of sources, grids, loads, and storage, aimed at increasing over 2 million kW of new storage capacity. Shanxi is also accelerating coalbed methane production, with projects like the Daji Coalbed Methane Field aiming to exceed an annual output of 20 billion cubic meters.

Of the 629 provincial key projects announced for 2026, 174 are related to energy transformation. These include the Northern Shanxi Coal Mining Subsidence Area New Energy Base Project, the Yuanqu Pumped Storage Power Station Project, the Yuncheng Economic Development Zone Green Power Park Project, and the province-wide coal mine intelligent transformation project.
