Shanxi province witnessed robust consumer spending during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, with offline consumption reaching 15.65 billion yuan ($2.3 billion), a 3.46 percent increase from the previous year.

The province prioritized an ample supply and stable prices for grains, oils, meats, eggs, vegetables, and dairy products. In Jincheng, over 10 supply assurance companies held inventories exceeding 5,000 metric tons of essential goods, with grain and edible oil stocks sufficient for over 60 days, and stable retail prices for 30 types of vegetables.

Shanxi advanced trade-in policies, focusing on key sectors such as automobiles, home appliances, and digital products. Combined with government and corporate incentives, these policies delivered direct benefits to consumers, making bulk goods consumption a key driver of market growth. Taiyuan's lottery receipt campaign attracted over 200,000 participants during the holiday, awarding over 4 million yuan in prizes, further stimulating consumer spending alongside trade-in policies.

New immersive, experiential, and interactive consumer scenarios were developed that blend commerce, culture, tourism, and sports. In Jincheng and Yangquan, business districts collaborated with tourist attractions to offer traditional performances, food festivals, and discounts by using ticket stubs. Dining venues also thrived, and key accommodation providers reported occupancy rates exceeding 95 percent.
