The Shanxi Museum Association unveiled the "Big Museums Helping Small Museums: Advancing Together" initiative on May 18, in celebration of International Museum Day. This program aims to address the regional development imbalances and uneven resource distribution among museums across the province, fostering a new framework for resource sharing and collaborative progress.

The initiative targets gaps in county-level museums in areas such as exhibition planning, artifact preservation, operations management, and talent development. Key support measures include jointly developing high-quality exhibitions, protecting cultural relics, creating cultural and creative products, building educational brands, exploring academic topics, and nurturing professional talent.

Under the initiative, provincial and top-tier museums will establish long-term partnerships with one to three county-level museums to facilitate the transfer of collections, talent, technology, and academic resources to grassroots levels. Larger museums will open their conservation and restoration labs, co-curate exhibitions highlighting local culture, share cultural resources, and establish regular personnel exchange programs, allowing key staff members from smaller museums to learn alongside experienced professionals.

The Shanxi Museum Association also plans to create a provincial museum support information platform, explore the establishment of a dedicated support fund, and integrate the outcomes of these efforts into relevant assessment criteria. This will significantly strengthen the public cultural service capabilities of grassroots museums.
