As Dragon Boat Festival nears, Shanxi province is seeing a surge in tourism interest. According to Tongcheng Travel, searches for the province as a travel destination have risen by 213 percent over the past week. 

To attract visitors seeking a cultural feast during the festival, scenic spots across Shanxi are offering activities that blend traditional celebrations with local characteristics. Events such as intangible cultural heritage performances and folk experiences will give visitors the chance to watch dragon boat races, taste zongzi (traditional rice dumplings), and savor local cuisine, creating an immersive experience of the province's unique festive charm.

Cultural heritage sites like Yungang Grottoes, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, and Jinci Temple, along with Shanxi Museum and Shanxi Bronze Museum, are hosting Duanwu-themed educational activities. These include in-depth tours and hands-on experiences, making cultural trips increasingly popular.

Family travel bookings account for over half of all holiday orders. Searches for one-day tours featuring heritage crafts and nature education have risen by 130 percent, while bookings for two-night stays at resort hotels have increased by 146 percent compared with last week.

To further boost tourism and spending, Shanxi's attractions are offering a range of promotions. The House of the Huangcheng Chancellor scenic area is providing free entry for children, high-speed rail discounts, and complimentary tickets bundled with accommodations.

To further enhance the travel experience, Dayang Ancient Town is introducing festival-exclusive ancient banknotes, valid at all shops in the area, and offering discounts on food, snacks, and cultural products. Visitors can earn these banknotes through interactive activities and themed events, making their visit both more enjoyable and affordable.
