Taiyuan hosts 13th Guan Gong Folk Festival

The 13th Guan Gong Folk Festival took place from June 25 to 28 at the Grand Guandi Temple in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, aiming to promote the spirit of loyalty and righteousness associated with Guan Gong, a general from the late Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220) and Three Kingdoms (220-280) periods.

This year's festival featured a diverse array of activities, including Xingyi kung fu demonstrations, Jin Opera performances, and cultural shows, showcasing the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture. A special program, "Exploring Guan Gong at the Grand Guandi Temple", offered guided tours to help visitors engage with Guan Gong's legacy and spirit.

At the heart of the festival was the Guan Gong Blessing Ceremony, which featured traditional rituals honoring Guan Gong. This event highlighted the core values of loyalty, righteousness, benevolence, and bravery, offering attendees a profound cultural experience. Additionally, Jin Opera artists captivated the audience with their skillful performances, bringing Guan Gong to life.

The festival, a key cultural event organized by the Guandi Temple Museum, has been held annually for 12 years. Blending ancient and modern life, it has become a vital platform for promoting Guan Gong culture and a unique cultural hallmark of Taiyuan.
