The Shanxi Laboratory for New Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Products, led by Shanxi University of Chinese Medicine, has been approved for establishment, marking a significant advancement in the development of Shanxi province's TCM innovation system.

As a major repository of medicinal herbs in northern China, Shanxi boasts rich TCM cultural heritage and a solid industrial foundation. The establishment of this laboratory is a strategic move to meet industry demands, promote innovation-driven development, and foster new quality productive forces in the sector.

The laboratory introduces an innovative model that brings together universities, research institutes, medical institutions, and leading pharmaceutical enterprises, integrating basic research, clinical validation, pilot development, and industrialization to create a collaborative innovation loop that addresses research-industry disconnect and poor industrialization of results.

The laboratory will focus on five key areas: the exploration and study of authentic Shanxi medicinal resources and active substances; the development of innovative and improved TCM drugs; the modernization of ancient classical formulas; the development of new TCM preparation processes; and the upgrading of the quality standards system for medicinal herbs and proprietary Chinese medicines. These efforts aim to overcome technical bottlenecks, transforming Shanxi from a resource-rich province to an industry-strong region.
