Shanxi sees steady H1 economic growth

In the first half of the year, Shanxi province has made significant strides in promoting comprehensive transformation, advancing energy transition, and improving industrial efficiency, further cementing the foundation for high-quality development.

According to unified regional GDP accounting data, Shanxi's GDP reached 1.17 trillion yuan ($173.36 billion) in the first half of the year, up 2.1 percent year-on-year.

From January to May, industrial enterprises above a designated size in the province achieved an operating income of 1.21 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.7 percent. Total profits reached 62.23 billion yuan, up 41.7 percent.

Among new industrial products, the production of integrated circuits, photovoltaic cells, and industrial robots saw rapid growth, with increases of 21.0 times, 10.6 percent, and 6.7 percent, respectively.

The modern service industry continues to thrive. During the same period, revenue from the internet and related services grew by 11.9 percent, while scientific research and technical services grew by 7.3 percent.

New consumption trends are also emerging, with online retail sales above a designated size rising by 8.0 percent. Sales of wearable smart devices, computers and accessories, and high-efficiency home appliances increased by 118.3 percent, 19.4 percent, and 6.6 percent, respectively.

In the first half of the year, per capita disposable income in Shanxi reached 16,572 yuan, up 5.3 percent. Urban areas saw 279,000 new jobs, achieving 61.9 percent of the annual target.
