Yangquan city in Shanxi province held the "15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30)" news conference on Aug 17. During the event, Mayor Chen Kai outlined Yangquan's ambitious goals to implement the plan effectively and pursue a path of high-quality development.

Chen emphasized how Yangquan will leverage its existing industrial foundation to systematically build a modern industrial system with local characteristics.

The city aims to establish a new integrated energy base, featuring wind, solar, thermal, and storage integration, alongside the construction of a national-level zero-carbon park. By the end of the 2030, Yangquan plans to achieve a renewable energy installed capacity of 4.8 million kilowatts and surpass 2 million kW in energy storage.

In addition, Yangquan will advance its leading industries toward high-end, intelligent, green, and integrated development. The city will promote the fusion of selenium-enriched agriculture and cultural tourism, foster emerging sectors such as modern logistics and the low-altitude economy, and drive the deep integration of primary, secondary, and tertiary industries.

Yangquan will also initiate urban renewal actions, accelerating the construction of an ecological city. The city aims to strengthen its county economy by developing distinctive leading industries tailored to each county, nurturing one specialized town with an output value exceeding 5 billion yuan ($741.46 million) and three others exceeding 2 billion yuan. This will promote the integrated development of industries, counties, and communities.

The city is also committed to pursuing comprehensive rural vitalization, establishing 200 exemplary villages, boosting rural tourism and specialty agriculture, and transforming rural areas into vibrant hubs for young entrepreneurs.
