The 2026 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum (TELC) is set to take place from Sept 4 to 5 in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, with over 120 international guests from 28 countries and regions confirmed to attend. The United Kingdom has been designated as the guest country of honor.

This year marks the 54th anniversary of ambassadorial diplomatic relations between China and the UK. To further deepen exchanges and cooperation between Shanxi and the UK in the fields of new energy and low-carbon technology, a special UK Guest Country of Honor Forum will be held on the afternoon of Sept 4. The forum, themed "China-UK Energy Transition Forum: Transitioning from Coal Power to a Clean Power System", will feature in-depth discussions.

Representatives from the UK's Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, British universities, and companies will meet with Shanxi's departments, enterprises, universities, and research institutions to discuss coal transition and energy storage development. The discussions aim to foster practical cooperation in the clean energy sector.

Coinciding with the forum's 10th anniversary, Shanxi will host the inaugural "Ambassador's Chat Session" and the "Energy Low Carbon" international dialogue. These events will bring together foreign diplomats in China, representatives from international organizations, energy experts, and business leaders to discuss energy transition and cultural exchange, highlighting the story of Shanxi's energy revolution.

Several international meetings will also be held, including the International Geothermal Forum and the 7th International Geoscience Symposium, the International Forum on the Transformation and Development of the Energy Industry Chain, and the Foreign Investment Enterprise Roundtable.
