Shanxi province has released the "Comprehensive Enhancement Plan for the 'Clear Water into the Yellow River' Ecological Protection Initiative", aiming to have 285 projects under the initiative fully operational and effective by the end of 2028.

From 2026 to 2028, the proportion of high-quality water bodies at 53 national examination sections in the Yellow River Basin is expected to reach 78 percent, 80 percent, and 82 percent, respectively. The proportion of water quality classified as Class I-III is projected to be 80 percent, 85 percent, and 90 percent, respectively. The main stream of the Yellow River will consistently maintain Class II water quality.

To ensure the full operational effectiveness of the "Clear Water into the Yellow River" projects, the plan specifies three key tasks: promoting the standardized and stable operation of the projects, establishing a long-term and stable operational maintenance system, and maximizing the comprehensive ecological and environmental benefits of the projects. 

In terms of cementing the projects’ ecological protection outcomes, the plan focuses on water environment, water ecology, water resources, water regulation, and water risk. It includes 11 tasks such as investigating and rectifying sewage discharge outlets into the river, controlling overflow pollution during flood seasons, centralized treatment of industrial park sewage, protecting and restoring river and lake ecosystems, and ensuring ecological base flow for key rivers.
