According to Tongcheng Travel, Shanxi province is emerging as one of the fastest-growing regions in China's travel booking market for the upcoming holidays, with searches for keywords like "Mid-Autumn Festival" and "National Day" up 116 percent in August.
Known for its rich collection of ancient architecture, Shanxi is attracting a significant number of cultural heritage-seeking tourists planning their trips early. Iconic heritage sites such as the Yungang Grottoes, Yingxian Wooden Pagoda, Foguang Temple, and Nanchan Temple are among the key attractions.
Taiyuan's hotel booking interest has surged, making it one of the top 10 destinations for early bookings during the Mid-Autumn and National Day holidays. Hotels with tags like "scenic view", "ancient style", and "courtyard" have seen a noticeable increase in search popularity.
Pingyao has also been named a top 10 popular county destination for the holidays. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, Pingyao Ancient City maintains strong booking interest, with most visitors planning to stay 2 to 3 days to immerse themselves in the architecture and Shanxi merchant culture of the Ming and Qing (1368-1911) dynasties.
Shanxi's standout performance in this year's holiday bookings reflects a growing tourist preference for deep cultural experiences centered on ancient architecture. The province's unique cultural heritage, combined with ongoing improvements in transportation infrastructure, strongly supports its robust growth in the holiday travel market.
