Shanxi accelerates modern highway network development
Updated: 2026-10-15
The Shanxi Provincial Department of Transportation aims to build a modern highway network that is safe, efficient, smart, and driver-friendly during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period (2026-30). The focus will be on enhancing travel information, toll station efficiency, and service area experiences.
Shanxi is upgrading the "Jin e Xing" travel service platform. This upgrade will integrate functions such as traffic updates, convenience services, feedback, and emergency calls into a one-stop travel service portal. The province is also enhancing cross-departmental information sharing and improving information dissemination through various map platforms to ensure real-time, accurate travel information.
To improve toll station efficiency, Shanxi will leverage advances in digital infrastructure to gradually implement a new "phone+" cardless toll system. While maintaining traditional ETC and manual MTC payment methods, the "phone+" system will offer travelers more options for seamless travel.
To upgrade service areas, Shanxi plans to expand and optimize the charging network by adding 500 high-power charging stations, increasing the share of charging spaces to over 18 percent. The province aims to offer more personalized services to meet the needs of key groups such as the elderly, children, and truck drivers. Additionally, Shanxi will explore innovative development models by integrating service areas with cultural tourism and specialty agricultural products.
