The newly constructed second runway of the Taiyuan Wusu International Airport phase III expansion project illuminated its airfield at 3 am on June 5, marking a significant step toward the runway's operational readiness.
The second runway spans 3,600 meters in length and 45 meters in width, with a separation of 490 meters from the existing runway. Designed as Flight Zone Category 4E, the project includes parallel taxiways, southern aprons, and supporting facilities.
As the core infrastructure ensuring flight safety during nighttime and low-visibility conditions, the runway's airfield lighting system comprises 72 circuits and over 7,000 various lighting fixtures.
This 14-month intensive effort, which commenced construction on April 1, 2024, has culminated in the completion of precision approach lighting, runway lighting, taxiway lighting systems, and two lighting stations.
Shanxi Aviation Industry Group Co, in collaboration with contractor Beijing Jinghang'an Airport Engineering Co, introduced integrated light boxes, new isolation transformer connectors, and embedded lighting installation tools.
Shanxi Aviation Industry Group will strengthen collaboration with civil aviation authorities to advance calibration flights, test flights, and acceptance procedures. These efforts will ensure the smooth commissioning of the new runway, supporting Taiyuan's development into a modern regional aviation hub.
