In recent years, the Taiyuan sports bureau has hosted signature events, including marathons, dragon boat races, and the Tour of Taiyuan Road Cycling Race. It has also introduced high-caliber domestic and international competitions, such as the WTT Contender Series, Taekwondo Open, Badminton Open, and China Tennis Tour, boosting the event-driven economy.

During major competitions, accredited personnel received complimentary access to iconic attractions like the Jinci Temple Museum, Tianlongshan Museum, and Twin Pagodas Museum. This strategy aims to attract more domestic and international visitors to experience Taiyuan firsthand.

At the 2025 WTT Contender Taiyuan, a "Shanxi Specialty Products Expo" was held near the venue to introduce fans to local cuisine and Shanxi culture.

During the 2025 Dragon Boat Festival, the city hosted on-site experiences like dragon boat rides and flyboard shows, alongside exhibitions of kayaks, rowing shells, and motorboats. Sports brands, local specialties, and time-honored food stalls were featured, stimulating event-based economic activity.

Taiyuan will continue to refine support measures by exploring policies that incentivize private sector investment in high-level sports events, accelerating the commercialization and professionalization of competitions.
