Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, boasts 18 national-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) representative items, 96 provincial-level items, 255 municipal-level items, and 607 county-level items.
In recent years, the city has enhanced its ICH inventory system, strengthened management mechanisms, and implemented transmission responsibilities, enabling the role of ICH in supporting the city's economic and social development to become more prominent.
Taiyuan operates seven ICH transmission and exhibition centers, 84 ICH exhibition halls and transmission sites, and one national-level and two provincial-level ICH productive protection demonstration bases. These facilities play a vital role in the transmission, protection, exhibition, and promotion of the city's intangible cultural heritage.
In protecting and transmitting ICH representative items, Taiyuan has increased financial support for ICH inheritors. The city is also enhancing theoretical training, skill upgrading, and new media communication training for inheritors, rigorously carrying out the identification of ICH items and inheritors, strengthening infrastructure development, and ensuring free admission to all ICH inheritance experience centers at all levels.
Over 3,000 exhibition and performance activities featuring ICH representative items have been held in scenic spots, communities, and military camps, benefiting 8 million people.
