According to the 2025 China Top 100 Cities List released by Warton Economic Institute, Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, has ranked 39th with a comprehensive score of 44.42 points.
The list includes cities at or above the municipal level that also ranked among the top 115 in the previous year's GDP. It comprehensively evaluates complex economic indicators, such as GDP, savings, and finance, as well as soft economic factors, including environment, science and education, culture, and health.
The top 10 cities listed are Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, and Chongqing. There are 58 cities from the eastern region on the list, 22 cities from the central region, 16 cities from the western region, and four cities from the northeastern region.
Taiyuan's complex economic indicators scored 38.3 points, ranking 44th, with GDP scoring 32.49 points, savings 51.09 points, and finance 37.11 points. Taiyuan's soft economic indicators scored 54.32 points, ranking 29th, with environment scoring 68.21 points, science and education 50.88 points, culture 54.45 points, and health 43.74 points.
