At the 2025 China Sports Tourism Expo held in Suzhou, East China's Jiangsu province, from Sept 12 to 14, Taiyuan Marathon was awarded the title of 2025 China Sports Tourism Excellent Event.

The 2025 China Sports Tourism Excellent Project Promotion Event is an important activity of the China Sports Tourism Expo and received a total of 539 projects submitted by 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities across the country. After a selection process, 112 items were shortlisted for the 2025 China Sports Tourism Excellent Project.

Shanxi province had two projects shortlisted for the excellent project, namely Jinzhong Yunzhu Lake Sports Tourism Scenic Area and Taiyuan Marathon. Among them, the Taiyuan Marathon is a World Athletics certified Gold Label event and a Class A1 event certified by the Chinese Athletics Association.

Taiyuan Marathon was founded in 2010, and the previous 15 events have attracted more than 620,000 participants from more than 40 countries and regions around the world. The 2025 Taiyuan Marathon will start at 7:30 am on Sept 21 at Wuyi Square.

At 3:00 pm on Sept 20, the 2025 Taiyuan Humanoid Robot Fun Run will be held at Jinyanghu Park. The robot runners will start from Taohua Island and head to the Qingdian Square at the finish line, covering a total distance of approximately 5 kilometers.
