The list of construction areas for the first batch of high-quality outdoor sports destinations was announced on Oct 24. Taiyuan's Xishan Mountain-Fenhe River "Cycling +" outdoor sports destination was the only area selected from Shanxi province.

This high-quality outdoor sports destination construction aims to provide targeted support for areas with outdoor sports resources and development potential, serving as an important step in advancing China's outdoor sports industry.

The construction scope of Taiyuan's Xishan Mountain-Fenhe River "Cycling +" outdoor sports destination covers an area of 1,464.6 square kilometers, with the Xishan area, the Jinyang Lake, and Fenhe landscape belts serving as its core zones.

The core area plans to establish a layout featuring one "cultural, sports, intelligent, and tourism combined cycling center," and three additional cycling areas in northern Taiyuan, Jinyang Lake, Fenhe River belt, and southern Taiyuan.

Taiyuan has a long history and solid foundation in cycling sports. Since the 1960s, it has served as an important national training base, particularly excelling in mountain biking and endurance road racing. The city has hosted numerous domestic and international events and produced many professional cyclists.
