Yungang district in Datong has been transforming its rural landscape through the development of specialty agriculture in recent years, enhancing agricultural efficiency and boosting farmer incomes.
In Yangjiayao village, a 16,000-square-meter phalaenopsis orchid cultivation base employs smart greenhouse technology to grow high-quality orchids. A total of 300,000 of these orchids are sold per year, priced between 40 ($5.44) to 100 yuan each and generating over 10 million yuan in revenue.
Shangwozhai village has turned its focus to the strawberry market. During picking season, tourists from nearby cities flock to the village to pick their own strawberries, which they then take home, significantly boosting the local economy.

Tongjiawan village has carved out a path to prosperity through meticulous vegetable farming. By optimizing planting structures based on market demand and seasonal changes, the village ensures a seamless year-round rotation of leafy greens and fruiting vegetables, significantly enhancing land utilization efficiency.
The local cooperative also plays a crucial role by offering comprehensive technical guidance for everything from planting to harvesting and establishing unified sales channels, ensuring vegetables come to market smoothly and without delay.
"The vegetable industry is a major source of stable income for our residents, enabling many families to build new homes and purchase new cars," said Niu Zhixin, Party secretary of the village.
The local government plans to further focus on specialty agriculture by optimizing industrial layouts and integrating innovative ideas and modern technology into agricultural practices, according to a representative from the Yungang agriculture and rural affairs bureau.
